The Polly Bolton Band - Then and Now

Polly Bolton

Joined Dando Shaft in 1970 while at university studying zoology, recording two albums. In 1973, she went to the USA working with different bands, and acquired a keen interest in both jazz and soul music. In 1976, she returned to England, working occasionally with Kevin Dempsey in folk clubs, and starting a jazz rock band called 'About Time'. In 1980, Polly 'retired' to Shropshire to start a plant nursery, but in the mid 1980s was persuaded by Ashley Hutchings to sing on his new album, and this led to her joining the Albion Dance Band in 1987. Her first solo album 'No Going Back' followed, and in 1989 she started working and recording with John and Steve in the current line-up.

John Shepherd

John played guitar, bass and keyboards in a series of R&B and blues bands in the 1960s. He studied at the London College of Music, graduating in 1975. He went into teaching, but in 1985 joined the Albion Band, collaborating with Ashley Hutchings on composition and arranging. He is at present Head of Music at Kidderminster College.

Steve Dunachie

Steve studied classical piano and violin and got a great deal of experience playing with a variety of Jazz groups in the early 1980s. He was a professor at the Guildhall for two years, lecturing in keyboard harmony and improvisation. He has composed chamber works, songs and a film score. He is now primarily a music therapist, working with severely handicapped adults and children.
